Spring is in the air

The days are getting longer.

We walked to the park for the first time this year.

Red Sox baseball starts tomorrow.

I didn't wear a jacket tonight when I went to the gym.

I haven't heard the heater click on all day.

Hyrum rode his bike to get the mail. (Well, he sort of rode/walked it).

Did I mention Red Sox opener is tomorrow? Another week and it'll be their first home game, against the Yankees. I have a feeling it's going to be a good year!

How to raise $225

First, bake a cake.

A chocolate cake.

Let your toddler lick the batter.

Add fresh cut strawberries smothered in goo (glaze).

Place second layer of cake on top.

Cover and chill for the night.

Call sister in law twice to ask about the frosting. It's a new recipe, and I hadn't made it yet. It's delicious, but be prepared to listen to your kitchen-aid's motor for a minimum of 45 minutes straight.

Let your toddler lick the whisk.

Add fresh cut and pureed strawberries.

Frost cake.

Run to the store last minute because you forgot to leave a few strawberries out for a garnish on top. Add strawberries, but forget to take a picture.

Deliver cake to Young Women's fundraiser dinner.

Prepare and serve 100+ people dinner, help clean the kitchen, feed your toddler actual food to go with all of the sugar, feed your 3 month old baby who has been passed around to multiple people all night.

Have your husband run the auction (there were several $100 cakes) and have two people out bid each other until it reaches $225.

Rush home and put your kids to bed. (More specifically, run home, switch cars because husband couldn't find his keys and walked the kids in the stroller to the church, come back, load kids in car, and then get them in bed. Although, Kate is being difficult and keeps waking up.)

Eat dinner.

Blog.

Sleep.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

It's a day late... didn't make it to the computer last night.

I'm guessing I'll always have two pictures of these two. One where he's looking, and one where she is. Too much to ask for them both to look decent. Oh, and I know Hyrum needs a haircut... I'm afraid to hurt his 'wound' on the back of his head just yet.
If you're thinking Kate looks like she belongs in an 80's aerobics video, you're not the only one!

Long Days

Monday's are my (and Justin's) long days. I've been trying to get up at 6 (regardless of what the night was like) and go to the gym a few times a week, and Monday is one of them. Monday's are usually quite busy for Justin at work, and then he teaches on campus for University of Phoenix. So, it's just me and the kids until 10pm.

This Monday is no exception, even though it's by birthday. Despite lot's of calls, texts, facebook messages and even some yummy cupcakes with DELICIOUS frosting (thanks Shondel), today pretty much sucked.

To top it all off... Hyrum jumped off an ottoman and cut his head open. Again. A friend (who helped out when he did the same thing at Girls Camp) stopped by on her way home from work and took a peek. She didn't think it needed stitches, but after some peroxide and liquid band aid, I'm not so sure we made the right decision. Kate had a unusual day and was pretty unhappy and tired for most of it. She was screaming, he was crying, but it was just me here, so the three of us went to Walgreens to get the first aid supplies that I didn't have on hand. We must have looked pretty pathetic, when we walked in. In fact, I know we did. The lady at the makeup counter said "Oh, honey, you have your hands full, I'll help you get what you need". Which was much appreciated.

Thirty-one years old. I don't feel any different than I did yesterday. But, I got to sleep all night last night, ran 3 miles at the gym, got a 30-minute nap, plus I made a delicious (and healthy) dinner and talked to a few friends on the phone. Oh, AND, I didn't have to go to insta-care with Hyrum. I guess it wasn't that bad of a day after all.

Figures

I love sleep. Not only do I enjoy it immensely, I need it.

Don't get me wrong, we ALL need sleep. And, I don't have any kind of disorder that requires me to get more than the average adult. But, I'm a beast if I don't get enough sleep on a regular basis. I think this is why I have a hard time with newborn babies. I know I'm not alone or unique in this.

So... the last 3 months, if I've been lucky enough to get both kids asleep at the same time, you better believe I try to take a nap. Who knows how much sleep I had the night before, and who knows how much I'll get that night. The joy's of having a new baby.

I had a week or two where I was able to take a nap almost every day. Lately, I haven't been so lucky. I consider it a good week if it happens once. Maybe twice.

So today, I was fully prepared to miss out on even the chance of a nap because I needed to renew my drivers license (which could be another post all its own). I told Justin I could even take Kate with me, but I couldn't take Hryum. I got them both down for a nap and because Justin didn't have any calls in the next hour or so, I got to go by myself. Seriously, who else but a mom of young children gets excited to go to the DMV just because it's without children?

Anyway, I went the DMV. Stood in my lines, took my bad picture, paid my money. I even stopped at the bank on the way home. By the time I got back, Hyrum had just woke up. And Kate? Kate must love her daddy more than me, because that girl is STILL asleep.

I missed out on a 2 hour nap.

Stupid drivers license.
