Baby steps

If I had a bit more energy and time before I know I'll be falling asleep I would change the title of the blog to read Table for Five... but I don't.  At least not tonight.  And, it's sort of starting to wear on me that some people know and other people don't, it's getting a little tiring keeping track.

I'm not ready to shout it from the rafters quite yet (Put it on facebook), so I'll start with the 7 or so that read this blog.  And... I'm sure most of you are family anyway, so you already know.

We're adding another Lafeen to the bunch -and surprisingly enough, we've managed to get it in before the holidays start.  Okay... it might interfere with Labor Day from time to time, but that's nothing compared to competing with Thanksgiving and Christmas, right?

The due date is September 27th, and since the little guy (or gal) was a bit shy when I met with my doctor the first time and refused to let us hear the heartbeat, we actually got a picture of this one at 11 weeks.

And yes, for the annoyance of all involved (expect me, it helps me keep track of how often I write and complete their books later on) I've started another blog.  If anyone cares to read it, let me know.  (I will eventually get around to inviting all those who are currently readers of this and the other kids blogs... but not tonight, I'm too tired!)

Unlucky

I'm sure my brother would HATE that I am posting this, but since I'm quite certain he never reads the blog I think I'm safe.  His wife Jes reads it, but I'll risk it.

If you're in my family... chances are you don't have your appendix.  4 out of 6.

You could possibly have had surgery on your knees.  2 out of 6.

Corrective lenses?  5 out of 6.  (Now it's 4 out of 6 thanks to Lasik).

You have had crappy backs and joints most of your adult-ish life.  5 or 6 out of 6.

Arthritis?  3 or 4 out of 6.

Had a neurosurgeon open you up?  As of tomorrow morning, 4 out of 6.

Gordon is scheduled to have a bulged disk fixed tomorrow by the same doctor that did my tailbone surgery 7 years ago.  Technically the neurosurgeon sat and watched the general surgeon take a giant cyst out and then decide to leave the broken tailbone alone.  Lucky for him (Gordon) we still know the office manager very well, and he was able to get in to see the dr and be available for surgery much quicker than he had at first anticipated.

2 out of the 3 of us that have had surgery similar to this had the decency to heal and recover without an added infection and surgery (but then again, 2011 just wasn't my mom's year).  Hopefully Gordon will recover quickly and be ready for the miles of walking we plan to do in New York in 7 weeks!

Pie Day

Yesterday was pie day.  Or, in other words, my birthday.

32 years old.  As birthday's go, it was a good one, and MUCH better than last year.  Justin was able to take the day off work, I went to the gym, my mom came down and we had lunch and found a new shirt and some carpi's, and then dinner and ice cream with Justin and some friends.

I was thinking of previous birthdays, obviously I don't remember the first few.  And, I probably would remember more if I took the time to look through mys scrapbook, but here are a few I remember, or at least things I remember from previous birthdays.

I think the first gift I really remember was my pink bike.  2 wheels, a giant banana seat and a few streamers coming out the handle's.  I also believe there was a basket -with a flower.  It was hiding in our sandbox (I'm sure it was too big to wrap).  I was pretty excited.  I was even more excited a few years later (I think the bike was at 5 or 6) when I could finally actually ride it, without training wheels.

My brother Gordon's due date was on my 6th birthday.  He was 10 days late.  I'm sure I was somewhat happy about this a lot of my growing up.  Now that I've been pregnant a couple of times, I can't believe my mom lasted an extra 10 days.

I remember getting really excited to turn 10.  Double digits and all.

We used to celebrate our birthday's with my mom's side of the family, almost always at Grandma Petersen's.  Since my brother's and my birthday are only 10 days apart we would celebrate them together.  I remember a few years resenting this, but for the most part, I was either too young to care/notice, or too old to be bothered by it.  I also remember when time my mom got us a cake that was split like an open book, decorated on one side with something I'd like, and the other side with something Gordon liked.  That would have been one of the years I wasn't boycotting cake and frosting and wanted doughnuts.

For my 16th birthday my friends threw me a surprise party.  My friend Kristi picked me up after driver's ed one evening, blindfolded me, and drove me around (in a lot of circles) for a while.  We ended up at my friend Kristin's house with a lot of friends there, it was a fun night.

On my actual 16th birthday, I convinced my mom to let me drive to school.  I just HAD to go to 2nd period AP American History.  After 2nd period I drove home, picked up my mom, and then we drove to the DMV and I got my license.

My mom wanted to get me practical, going-away-to-college gifts for my 18th birthday.  Like dishes or luggage.  I refused.  I think I knew I'd get those things anyway, so I didn't want to 'waste' presents on that kind of stuff.  I think I got some jewelry.  I probably should have got sheets and money for books.

In college my birthday always fell during spring break at Utah State.  It was kind of nice that way.  My friend Aaron was driving down to spend spring break in St. George with his friend Kevin and his girlfriend.  He asked me for a while to go with him.  I kept telling him no, it was a good week to work extra hours.  At the VERY last minute (like the day before) I told him I changed my mind and went with him.  On my birthday we went to Mesquite and gambled.  I was so excited, Kevin had spent the first part of the week teaching my how to really play blackjack.  We went to 2 or 3 casino's and I didn't get carded a single one.  I came out ahead $40, and I was still sort of bummed because no one asked to see my license.

I think it was for my 25th birthday, I was living in Salt Lake and working on my birthday.  Not that I was bummed about it, but I didn't have a very full afternoon, so I took a long lunch, drove up to the Park City outlets and bought me a few things, including a new purse.  It was a great way to spend a 2 hour lunch.
