Boo! AH!

So last night Melanie was in the bathroom getting ready for bed and I put some pillows on my side of our queen bed to look like I was sleeping there. I then turned out the lights and when she left the bathroom she turned out the lights and got into bed. She then opened the window and the metal bar that is kind of a security lock fell on what should have been my head and she was like "OH!" and I was watching this from the entry way (it was very dark). Then I turned the light on and said, " WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" and she screamed and covered herself as if I was someone else and looked down in a confused manner at the silent mass next to her looking for protection from this intruder. It was very comical.

...and Me: ENTJ

ENTJ - The "Chief"

74% Extraverted, 68% Intuition, 74% Thinking, 53% Judging

ENTJs are strategic, organized and possess natural leadership qualities. They are master coordinators that can effectively give direction to groups. They are able to understand complicated organizational situations and quick to develop intelligent solutions. ENTJs are outspoken and will not hesitate to speak of their plans for improvement. They are decisive and value knowledge, efficiency and competence.
Interesting. Well I think this part is true.

"ENTJs are natural born leaders. They live in a world of possibilities where they see all sorts challenges to be surmounted, and they want to be the ones responsible for surmounting them. They have a drive for leadership, which is well-served by their quickness to grasp complexities, their ability to absorb a large amount of impersonal information, and their quick and decisive judgments."
Yep...

"...have a strong natural urge to give structure and direction wherever they are -- to harness people in the field and to direct them to achieve distant goals."
For better or for worse...
"leader, ambitious, hard working, dominant, prepared, hates to be bored, confident, opinionated, analytical..."
Wow, this could really give one a big head.
"Unequivocating" expresses the resoluteness of the ENTJ's dominant function (Extraverted Thinking). Clarity of convictions endows these Thinkers with a knack for debate, or wanting knack, a penchant for argument. The light and heat generated by thinking at the helm can be impressive; perhaps even overwhelming."
Not always good things...

At work, ENTJs contribute a wealth of energy directed toward the goals and those of the organization. Their sense of identity is closely tied to how they carry out their responsibilities. They are curious about new ideas and theories, evaluating them in terms of their goals. They are very efficient, competitive, strategic, and task focused."
Yes.

Famous ENTJs:
Al Gore - former American Vice President
Benny Goodman - Jazz musician
Bill Gates - Microsoft Founder
Candace Bergen - actress (Murphy Brown)
Dave Letterman - TV show host, comedian
Edward Teller - theoretical physicist
Franklin D. Roosevelt - American President
Harrison Ford - actor (Indiana Jones)
Jim Carrey - actor, comedian
Margaret Thatcher - British Prime Minister
Newt Gingrich - Speaker of the House
Patrick Stewart - actor (Star Trek's "Cpt. Picard") Oh YES
Richard Nixon - American President Nobody's perfect
Sigourney Weaver - actress
Steve Martin - actor, comedian
Whoopi Goldberg - actress, comedian "Gas! I get a little GAS from time to time!"

Even more interesting...
ENTJ Career Matches:
ENTJs are often happy with the following jobs which tend to match well with the Chief/Intellectual personality.
Business Administrator, Computer Consultant, Corporate Executive Officer, Entrepreneur, Judge, Lawyer/Attorney, Manager, Mortgage Banker, Politician, Scientist, Systems Analyst, Teacher/Professor.

I thought this was interesting...
"ISFJs are characterized above all by their desire to serve others, their "need to be needed." Hmmm... sound like a social worker maybe?

modest, not confrontational, easily hurt, observer, prone to crying, not spontaneous
yes, yes, tell me more

They constantly take in information about people and situations that is personally important to them, and store it away. This tremendous store of information is usually startlingly accurate, because the ISFJ has an exceptional memory about things that are important to their value systems.
That was for Justin, who continues to question my 'startlingly accurate' memory

The primary desire of the Protector is to be of service to others, but here "service" means not so much furnishing others with the necessities of life, as guarding others against life's pitfalls and perils, that is, seeing to their safety and security.
Is it just me, or is that a nice way of say we always think we know what is right and try to get others to agree???

At work, ISFJs contribute loyal, sympathetic, consistent, and considerate service to others. They are know for their kindness and for their willingness to go to any length to help those in need.
Okay... now they're just using flattery to get me to read on. And... I need a raise. Apparently I'm a great employee.

They are painstaking and responsible with detail and routine, and feel it is important to have the right things in the right places at the right times.
Well... that explains why I dislike changes to my routine and 'surprises' in my daily life.

Sometimes Iwish I wasn't so boring...

A birthday party for Ethan

This is Ethan.

This is Ethan waiting to blow out his 4 candles.

I don't think Ethan and his brother Skyler like our version of "Happy Birthday To You " very much.

Here is Ethan opening the card that goes with the present wrapped in bright colored stripes.

And I didn't get a picture of the boys (Skyler, Ethan, and Justin) playing with the new Lite Bright. I'm not sure who enjoyed the present more... Ethan, or Justin.

Happy Birthday!

Pics of our vacation

A Thousand Splendid Suns

This could be the title of my vacation I just arrived home from. I spent the last 3 days in Long Beach, going to an unimpressive theme park, college campus, and beach. Check out my mom's blog 'castle mom and dad' for the details. And, there may be more to follow here... but I wanted to blog about another splendid sun...

For those of you who keep up with the best seller list, I read Khaled Hosseini’s (author of the Kite Runner) new book, A Thousand Splendid Suns. It's impossible to describe the book along with it's themes briefly, and, don't worry, I'm not going to try to do it justice here. I will just say, please read the book. If you read Kite Runner, it's very similar in it's graphic portrayal of another culture, other customs, and luckily, another life than the one I lead.

All I'll say about the book is this... I complain and criticize our federal and local government with the best of them. I see the injustice that happens in our own country, to our own people, as well as those seeking refuge here. I don't presume to have the answers to all or even some of our problems. Our culture (yes, even here in Utah) has many faults and room for improvement.

But, I think, for the most part, we recognize the value of life and the pursuit of happiness. I'm not sure if I ever thought about that statement much -the right to find out what makes us happy, and work for that goal. No one's life has turned out the way we thought it might, but I am positive anyone who will ever come across this particular blog has had joy in their life and felt like things may get better.

What we value as individuals, families, communities, and as a nation, has merit and many people have given their time, money, reputation, and even their lives to create and build upon a few basic beliefs. And for that... I think we do live in a land of a thousand splendid suns.

One more...

Star in Your Own JibJab! It's Free!

In Homage to Hairspray

Star in Your Own JibJab! It's Free!Eat your heart out John Travolta!

Worlds colliding and randomness

Last night Justin and I took one of the kids I work with out to see the movie Hairspray. His other caseworker (my client -not my husband) and I take him to a movie every couple of months or so... and I wasn't sure I wanted to see Hairspray twice -once with my client (I hate saying it that way... i'm going to call him Ralph)- and once with Justin. So... we kind of made a date out of it. Jen -the other caseworker and her boyfriend, Justin and I and Ralph. It's a weird feeling (especially in my line of work) to mix work and personal life, but Ralph enjoyed himself and Jen sent him home with the soundtrack of the movie -sure to annoy all of his roommates and staff. The movie was pretty cute, by the way.

I took Justin to the airport today in between dr appts. I don't really go to the doctors very often... but it usually happens all in the same month. Two appt's with my arthritis guy and then my 'yearly' appt with my regular doctor. I hope it's the LAST time I'll be taking Justin to the airport for a while... this is the 3rd time in 4 weeks. My mom and I will be joining him in LA later this week though, so that will be fun. We're going to Universal Studios on Friday. I'm going to keep my eyes open for any celebrity sightings.

I wonder where Matt Damon will be...

Me

I couldn't figure out another way to host a picture to put on my profile. This is me the happiest place on earth. That's right, the Green Monstah at Fenway Park.

A roady

Yesterday I went to St. George. It sucked. We left at 6 am and got back at 5pm. It was a long drive for a short work visit and then another long drive. Did I mention that it sucked? The only thing remotely interesting was seeing all of the burned land on either side of our car from the fire a few weeks ago. But that didn't make the trip any better. I'm glad I only have to do that every 3 months.

I guess the other interesting thing was on the way back hearing the news from my mom about my dad. He went in for an MRI and was pretty much not allowed to leave and is still in the hosptial with the doc's scratchin' their heads. It sounds like we'll know more by the end of today (but that's what my mom said yesterday...) so we'll see. For a more informative description of my broken dad click onto my parents blog (castle mom and dad).

For now I'm just glad to be back in the wasatch front. And not driving to St. George.

Here's lookin' at you, kid

Well... life goes on after Charlie. And, the day after (Thursday) I paid a group of men and women to put drops in my eyes, poke and prod them with metal instruments and then burn some of my cornea off. It was delightful.

For those of you haven't experienced lasik, it's kind of hard to describe, but it reminded me a little of the dentist -for your eyes. The pain and discomfort was a little dull, but I could still feel everything that was going on -and see it.

Speaking of seeing it -we came home with a DVD of the entire procedure. I think Justin's trying to figure out a way to put it on the blog. A warning for those of you (myself included) who are a little squeamish, don't watch it. It's little sci-fi and gross.
