Oh, THAT'S what you've been trying to tell us

So, we found out at our 2 week check up our son hasn't been growing fast enough. So, maybe all of the crying and not sleeping and trying to breast feed for 90-120 minutes (I'm not exaggerating) was for a reason. I have very little milk for the kid.

I made our second trip with him to the lactation specialist (it was our first trip by ourselves which went well) so, hopefully, with the help of this:
these:
and another tubing device that hooks to a bottle (couldn't find a picture of it online that didn't include a boob with it) we are continuing to try things 'naturally'.

Go figure.

  1. Another thought. I don't know about the drugs, but there is an herbal tea called mother's milk I believe at the good earth store that you drink and it helps to stimulate lactation. Just a thought to discuss with the DR.

  2. Been through all that stuff with both kids. I understand the frustration. I would like to email you about it all but I don't have your email. Shoot me your address at danielle.villagomez{at}yahoo.com.

  3. Good luck with the breast feeding thing. It's good that you are working so hard to give baby Hyrum what he needs.
We really want to come visit you and the little guy if we can ever find a time when we aren't sick!! We have just been passing it around and around!

  4. oh, just let him drink formula and save yourselves all the trouble, tears, and sleeplessness. ;) He'll thank you for it by sleeping through the night by 8 weeks.

As one of those moms who used bottles and formula by choice (and yes, I know I'm rare and many people will call me a "bad mommy" for doing it) - it was awesome, convenient, and no one can look at my kid and say he isn't healthy, or growing, or thriving.

I'm just saying, don't send yourself over the edge to try and do something that might not come as "naturally" as you want. And - think of all that free time you can find once the kid is happy with a full tummy.

  5. What drugs are you taking? I have a low milk supply and would be interested in finding out what you are doing.

  6. Good for you to keep trying, momma. It's so easy to give up, but you know what's best for your boy. Mothers milk tea, and fenugreek may help you.

  7. Don't believe the hype that formula-fed babies sleep longer. There has been little to no difference in sleep patterns between my babies, and one was on formula, one was breastfed.

Eventually nursing sessions will get much shorter. Stick with it unless you're going insane!
